Daniel Abt eyes IndyCar move after Andretti test
GP2 and Formula E racer Daniel Abt says that he is more keen than ever to pursue a career in the US after testing an Andretti Autosport IndyCar on Monday
The 21-year-old German spent a day in the car at Barber Motorsports Park, and said that the experience exceeded his expectations.
"I'd heard a lot about the car and the squad before, and all the positive things I was told were confirmed," he said.
"I had a fantastic day with plenty of fun and learned a lot. I didn't do this test out of boredom, but would like to explore options for next year. The test was a cool experience that definitely whets my appetite for more."
The test was the culmination of a fact-finding visit that Abt made to the IndyCar series finale at Fontana along with GP2 rival Conor Daly.
His next race will be the Formula E round in Putrajaya on November 22; a commitment that has forced him to drop out of the GP2 curtain-closer at Yas Marina.
"It was a tough decision which I had to take because of the overlap," he said. "I definitely want to keep the ball rolling in Formula E and still have some unfinished business there after the inaugural race.
"My thanks go to the Hilmer Motorsport squad for supporting me in the GP2 season. Of course we all had bigger aims. But we never gave up and, especially in the last races, showed our potential."
