Rob Huff: Honda move puts me in best place for 2017 WTCC title bid

Rob Huff believes moving to Honda puts him in the best place to win a second World Touring Car Championship after Citroen exits the series

Former Lada driver Huff was recently unveiled as part of an expanded line-up with the JAS Motorsport-run Honda squad for 2016, alongside team returnee Tiago Monteiro and promoted Independents' champion Norbert Michelisz.

Huff had previously declared the end of Citroen's factory involvement after 2016 would be good for the series and thinks he will be in a good position to benefit.

"No one needs to try and hide it or lie about it: Citroen is a level above everyone at the moment," he told Autosport.

"But I feel that I've now put myself in the perfect seat and the perfect opportunity - the best place to learn a lot and develop with the team and the car over the next 12 months.

"I can't help but feel that this puts me in a very strong position for 2017 with JAS and Honda to give ourselves a very realistic and fantastic opportunity to be a champion again."

Huff experienced his new machine for the first time at Jerez earlier this month.

"The car was fantastic," he said.

"I sat in it on the Thursday night to do a seat fitting and you can tell that they've really thought a lot about everything; the layout of all the controls, where everything is positioned and the information that's on the dashboard.

"You can just feel that it's been a very well thought out, well developed and built car from the ground up and just sitting in it before I'd even gone anywhere filled me with confidence.

"I've admired Honda for a number of years, growing up and seeing [James] Thompson and [Gabriele] Tarquini do battle in British Touring Cars in the Honda.

"To finally get the opportunity to drive one of the cars in the World Touring Car Championship is a wonderful opportunity for myself and I hope to make the most of it.

"If I can have a very long career with Honda that would be an absolute dream come true."

The Briton won the championship in 2012 with Chevrolet but following the marque's exit as a works team he spent the '13 season in a Munnich Motorsport SEAT Leon, before competing with the Lada factory outfit in the past two campaigns.
